ABOUT CLUB

The Mesquite Desert Dogs is a professional basketball team and is a franchise of The Basketball League (TBL). We are back for a second season and excited that our popularity and community support is continually growing. Our goal is to have a positive impact in the Mesquite community not only by entertaining our fans but also supporting and being involved in the community that believes in us. Mesquite Desert Dogs mission is to provide a high quality basketball experience for the players, fans and the community. We thrive for excellence, both on and off the court to enrich the lives everyone within our basketball family. 

HEAD COACH/GENERAL MANAGER

Carlnel Wiley Jr. has over 20 years coaching at all levels: high school, college and professional basketball. Last season, Coach Wiley was the Assistant Coach for the Nevada Desert Dogs, now known as the Mesquite Desert Dogs, so he is no stranger to the Mesquite area.

Prior to coaching with the Desert Dogs, Coach Wiley decided to spend time with his daughter and take a break from being on the road so much, he dedicated his time to high school basketball and for the first time, he coached Varsity Girls Basketball.  Both seasons, Coach Wiley took the team all the way to the state championship tournament.  The time Coach Wiley spent at Bishop Manogue High School is some of his most memorable times coaching.

Coach Wiley was the head coach of Bloomington Flex, in Bloomington, IL. The Flex played in the Midwest Professional Basketball Association (MPBA). That year, Coach Wiley lead the team to a Division Title for the 2013 season.

Coach Wiley spent the 2010-2012 seasons as the Basketball Operations Assistant and Quality Control Coach for the Reno Big Horns a NBA Developmental League (now a G-League). Coach Wiley directly worked with NBA stars Jeremy Lin, Bobby Simmons, Andre Emmett, Aaron Miles, Blake Ahearn, Marcus Landry, Danny Green and our very own Patrick O’Bryant.

During the 2008-2010 seasons, Coach Wiley was the Director of Basketball Operations for Montana State University in Bozeman, MT.

Coach Wiley has also served as Assistant Coach for Butte College in Chico, CA, Diablo Valley Junior College in Concord, CA and Norte Dame d Namur University in Belmont, CA.

Along with professional, college and high school basketball, Coach Wiley has spent time developing AAU teams (Amateur Athletic Union) such as the Tyler Johnson Top Flight Elite and Nevada Basketball Association teams. He has specialized in player development training and has a special knack for bringing the best out of every player.

Coach Wiley has a Master’s Degree in Physical Education from Chico State University. He believes in giving back to the community and gives his time to various youth organizations, such as the YMCA, Kids Kottage and The Boys and Girls Club. He believes the youth is our future and we have to empower them, as well as offer tough love to build strong character and work ethic for the future of our world. Coach Wiley has spent the last 12 years raising his beautiful daughter, who is the light of his life.  Coach Wiley is a dedicated to his family, players and the community.

ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER

Kelly Doyle has over 20 years of business experience, as well as being on several boards over the past years. She has been an active member of the community in Northern Nevada and continues to give her time and talent to the various organizations. She played a significant role on the School Board for Our Lady of the Snows school as well as the CYO Athletic Director. She also volunteered her time for two seasons as the Bishop Manogue Cheer Coach.  She also believes the youth in our future and has invested in them over the last 20 years by owing and running several preschools in the Northern Nevada area. In the most recent years, she taught junior 6th– 8th grade art and PE.  She also has dedicated a majority of her time to raising her three teenage children to be strong and empowered individuals to achieve their goals and be successful in life.
